چکیده

Chaliacombe, D. N., Brown, G. A., Black, S. C., and Storrie, M. H. (1972). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 47, 442. Increased excretion of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid in urine of children with untreated coeliac disease. 24-hour urine excretions of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA) have been measured in 13 children with coeliac disease before treatment. All were excreting more 5HIAA than an age-matched group of 22 control children. On introduction of a gluten-free diet clinical remission was accompanied by decreasing 5HIAA excretion. Excretion was normal in cases of acute and chronic diarrhoea and cystic fibrosis. The test is proposed as an aid to diagnosis and a method of monitoring satisfactory dietary control.

Urinary 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid in 8-hour collections as an aid in diagnosis of coeliac disease.

8-hour urine excretions of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) were measured in 18 children with coeliac disease before treatment and the results expressed as microgram 5-HIAA/mg creatinine. Similar measurements were made on urine collections from an age-matched control group of 24 children. Significantly higher values of 5-HIAA excretion were found in children with untreated coeliac disease. M...

Simultaneous assessment of intestinal permeability and lactose tolerance with orally administered raffinose, lactose and L-arabinose.

1. In order to develop an improved differential sugar absorption test for simultaneously assessing intestinal permeability and lactose intolerance, methods were established for determining raffinose, lactose and L-arabinose in human urine. Using NAD(P)H-coupled enzymatic assays and fluorimetry, each sugar was measurable over a concentration range of approximately 3-300 mumol/l in diluted urine ...

Therefore, we report a 9-year-old girl with Coeliac disease, diabetes type 1 and Selective IgA deficiency. A 9-year-old female patient presented in august 2...

Daily cyclic changes in the urinary excretion of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid in patients with carcinoid tumors.

BACKGROUND Vasoactive peptides produced by neuroendocrine tumors can induce characteristic symptoms of the carcinoid syndrome (flushing, diarrhea, and wheezing). To what extent external factors provoke these symptoms and how excretion of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), the degradation product of serotonin, varies throughout the day remain unknown. In this study, we investigated whether sym...
